Margaret Corcoran

Bio

Margaret Corcoran is a conventionally gifted draughtsperson and painter, absolutely at home with representational method. Corcoran is better known for her work been rooted in art and feminist histories; Restricted by the pandemic Corcoran’s practice led her to explore (incl. the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan), places she could not visit; the featured artwork herein derives from pre-existing photographic imagery. The study of this process is far from a simple affair, Corcoran radically re-formulated and re-interpretated her source to truly make it her own, both by her brushwork technique and her interpretation of each portrait within the piece. Corcoran is a graduate of the National College of Art and Design (NCAD), (including a study period at Chelsea School of Art, London, England) and holds a master’s in fine art Painting from NCAD, Dublin. Her work is held in prominent collections in Ireland & USA.
